Axis Tower commissioned a series of existing and newly developed artworks for its landmark digital screen overlooking Manchester city centre.
Spanning approximately ten storeys, the screen occupies a highly visible position within the city skyline and has become a recognised platform for large-scale public messaging, art and cultural content.
The commissioned works used bold typography, colour and concise language to create moments of reflection, encouragement and connection within the urban environment. Designed to operate at significant scale, the messages needed to communicate instantly while retaining enough depth to reward further thought.
Visible across a large section of the city centre, the artworks became a familiar sight for commuters, residents and visitors. Photographers regularly gathered to capture the screen between commercial advertising rotations, documenting the positive messages as they appeared above the city.
The project demonstrates how digital infrastructure can be repurposed as a platform for public art, transforming advertising space into opportunities for civic reflection and shared experience.
